What are the chances of conceiving using frozen gametes?

With advanced technology, gametes survive the freezing and thawing very well. The chances of conception depends upon the age when the gametes were frozen. As previously explained, as one ages, the chances of pregnancy declines usually due to the decline in quality of gametes. But say if you froze your egg/embryos when you were 30, then chances of conception are very good even at 40. Thus, it is imperative that you freeze your fertility as soon as you know.

Delay your parenthood on your own terms.

How are the embryos used to begin a pregnancy?

The process is called frozen embryo transfer, or FET. To prepare for the embryo implantation, the prospective mother may receive estrogen pills or injections to build up the lining of the uterus, and then progesterone treatment to make the uterus receptive to the embryo. Alternatively, in a “natural” FET cycle, a patient is monitored until ovulation occurs and the embryo is transferred into the uterus approximately five days after ovulation.

When the uterus is ready, the doctor inserts a catheter into the vagina, through the cervix (the opening of the uterus) and into the uterus, and carefully injects one or more thawed embryos, along with a small amount of fluid, into the uterus using a syringe. Afterward, the embryologist carefully examines the catheter under a microscope to ensure the embryo is no longer inside the device. About 14 days after the embryo transfer, a blood pregnancy test can confirm if the procedure was successful.

Can frozen embryos be used later, and how long can they be stored?

Yes, embryos can be frozen and stored for future use. In India, embryos can legally be stored for up to 10 years under specific conditions, as per ART guidelines.

Yes, IVF treatments in India are regulated by the ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) Act. Key points include:

  • Surrogacy is permitted only under altruistic conditions for eligible couples. We do not do any surrogacy at Jain Fertility & MotherCare Hospital

Can single women or same-sex couples undergo IVF in India?
